Racism at Best buy at the avenues
I was shocked. Did the store manager just say that to me? No way did I hear that. I must have misunderstood. I decided well, maybe I will shrug it off a little, joke about it and see if the manager corrects what I would I heard. Instead, all the other employees started laughing at me when they noticed how upset I was becoming. They in fact laughed me out of the store. It is true, and here is the story.
Yesterday while doing a stereo install in my girlfriends car, I needed to purchase an adapter piece. I couldn't find on locally so I called best buy. I was informed that the part was available at the avenues store. I drove there, it was 9:29 when I walked in the door. I noticed this because my friend who was with me said "hey, I think they close at 9:30, but its only 9:29 so we have a minute." They are open to 10 though. I went to the car audio department, ask for help and the guy looks at me and walks away. After nearly 15 minutes someone finally comes to help. Looks up the part, goes to look for it and says "sorry, it shows we have it but I can't find it." Ok, what can I do. After a discussion and very little help, he tells me that best buy at town center has the part. Now it is like 10 to 10. I ask if he can call them for me check for the part and pull it and I can be there. "No, I can give you their number." was the answer I recieved. I ask if I can get the part number and he tells me "I'm to busy right now" and walks away. I am on the phone with a customer service girl at the other store at 10:55, they tell me they have it there but are closing, if the manager comes they can do a inventory thing and bring it to me. Great I think, let me ask the manager. I am thinking, ok, you guys messed up, here is a chance to correct the situation, make a customer happy (not a cheap 10 dollar part either mind you) make a good sale and save face. Instead I reply I am given is "no, why should I do something like that to help you?" I proceed to tell the manager why and how it would be the "right" thing to do. I don't want to say what the managers reply to that was...But it shocked me deeply.
Please, do not aide in the racism that appartly best buy breeds. Do your shopping elsewhere. Even if not for this, do it because they have the WORST customer service and do not stand behind their products.
thank you.

Re: Racism at Best buy at the avenues
I am sorry that you had this happen to you. It does not sound like racism to me. Just a case of extremely poor customer service. I have shopped at Best Buy before, although not in that particular store. My customer service experience at these stores has ranged from great to very poor depending on the time of day. Right now Best Buy is kind of "the big kid on the block" for their kind of store. I do not remember who said this but if you want to see how a company is doing now, check their sales. If you want to know how they are going to be five years down the road, check their customer service. If Best Buy continues down this path with their customer service, they will be in financial trouble down the road.

Friend Best Buy is known for occasional poor customer service, regardless of customer "color". I think you might of played your race card too soon on this one. I'm sure your attitude was in check and played no part in this incident.

Re: Racism at Best buy at the avenues
Yea, I too have had some issues with Customer Service there, however, I don't believe it's because I am of color because I'm as white as they come. I just think it's because they really don't care if you buy anything from them or not, Plain and simple. The Kids working in the stores at the lowest possible salaries don't even know how to spell customer service. What did you expect you would get there? I understand your fustration but I fail to see how Racism comes into play here. Is that just your way of expressing your dissatisfaction with the way something was handled? If that's the case we are all victims of racism.....

Re: Racism at Best buy at the avenues
Since this poster did not state his/her race, I am torn. However, since the common complaint of most blacks is racism I must deduct that this customer was black. That said, perhaps there is much more to this story than is stated in this 'tale' of poor customer service.
I, too, have had bad customer service at times from different places I shop. However, even when I have had black managers and employees screaming at me and telline me I didnt know what I was talking about (although I eventually was able to get someone that spoke english instead of gutter) I was able to get help. Now, dont get me wrong, as an American/Native Indian, my people have been wronged more than ANY other race in the entire world! BAR NONE! However, learning to speak english was not an option given MY ancestors. We were FORBIDEN to speak our language. We had to change our names to compliment the white thieves that overtook the land that we cherished, killed the livestock that fed and clothed our people! We had to change our look, our names, our language, go to their schools WITHOUT CHOICE.
Perhaps if we FORCED blacks to speak PROPER english instead of their gutteral lingo, pull their pants up around their waste like a decent human being and treat others with the same respect they shove their gun into the face of their unexpecting victim and DEMAND, more people in this city might have more respect, compassion and understanding for the race in its entirety. The facts are that most of them REFUSE to speak with ANY intelligence, pull their pants up or act like they care about anything other than hurting someone else to further THEIR own interests. WHY EXACTLY should ANYONE of ANY OTHER race give a flying rats patooty about the black race. THEY DONT CARE ABOUT THEMSELVES ENOUGH to deserve ANY respect from anyone else.
If WE have to give up everything we know and have EVER known to be accepted as an intelligent people, why does this country lower its standards for the ignorant blacks that refuse to make an step of any kind to better themselves?????????????????????

I have recieved poor customer service from more than one establishment, including Best Buy. Race at times may be a factor, but also there are times when it is not. It appears to me that in general a good work ethic is not taught or expected any longer. What is sad is in more than one instance when a company has a good employee that gives proper customer service and a fair day's work for a fair day's pay they are the ones that are treated poorly. In more than one instance I have seen an incompetent employee promoted over an outstanding employee. Unfortunately in these times it seems lower management is not concerned about a disgruntled customer, feeling one lost customer will not make or break them. Unhappy customers need to complain to higher-ups in the company and not let incidents like this go unreported. Complaining in a forum such as this may let one "vent", but complaining in a calm and well spoken manner to the company may just get a result. Consumers need to remember they are the ones that keep a company going. The sqeaky wheel gets the grease, we need to start "squeaking' a little more and not taking poor service in stride.
Concerning rgs7672:
I wonder how rgs7672 would feel if I were to state "most" Native Americans cannot handle their liquor, are lazy, only live on reservations so they remain unemployed and if they do hold a job, only work in reservation-run casinos, I believe he or she would be highly offended. Stop assuming, and stop lumping people into race categories with steriotypical traits and treat a person as a person. Not a color. I agree with some of what you say, but "most black" people do not fit your descriptions. I have met many colors that act as you have stated, not just one.
Now from my comments what race do you "assume" I belong to? Would it surprise you to find I am white? Or maybe I am a black. Or could I possibly be, as you refered to yourself American/Native American? I find it amusing, you used a "PC" term only when refering to yourself.

I'm new to this and soon will tire of it I'm sure. I a minority, and it seems to me that all everyone wants to do is complain and try a race card, why?

Re: Racism at Best buy at the avenues
There is no such thing as racism anymore. we have the election to prove that! Cry yourself a river, build yourself a bridge, and get over it ! You have the choice as an American to shop elsewhere, if enough people do, this company will fall like the rest !

Re: Racism at Best buy at the avenues
Best Buy is notorius for poor customer service. It has nothing to do with race, just poor hiring practices and lack of strong management.

Re: Racism at Best buy at the avenues
There are some missing facts to make this example racism. However, this thread has some major tones of racism. It sickens me. Sure, I've stereo-typed when I was younger. I was immature, and possibly shallow. I'm sure I've been stereo-typed against.
I can agree to an extent about the low pants and what have you. These are not traits to a race. I've seen quite a few Caucasians wear and act as you described. We all act, dress, talk, and exist how we want to be perceived. If someone wants to act foolish, let them be a fool. It's the violence, hate, and anger that we shouldn't tolerate or allow.
We're all beyond what who's ancestors did what to who's else. We're beyond the assumptions of 'you did this to me' because of my race, my religion, my sexuality. We're all human beings. We've all got a brain to reason with. We've all got a heart to love with. Quit hating each other for the past, and let's just all make a better future for ourselves by accepting everyone for who they are, not what they are.
